Five police vehicles including a U-Haul truck were parked outside a tidy blue bungalow with a front porch on Peppard Drive, a quiet, bungalow-lined street in Onslow Mountain.
A tire swing hanging from a tree, a wishing well and a stand of trees are outside the home, which is set back about 50 metres from the road, where another three police vehicles sat.
A Canada Post carrier couldn't reach the hand-painted mailbox at the end of the driveway to deliver the mail Friday and instead handed the letters and envelopes to a Mountie.
RCMP wouldn't let reporters wander onto nearby properties to get a better look at the search site.
One neighbour who came along refused to comment.
An RCMP spokeswoman said they started the search after receiving new information about Mersereau, who vanished in 1999."
