Three Winnipeg police officers were hurt while trying to pull over a car early Tuesday morning, during an investigation related to a brewing biker gang war.

In a news release, police say officers tried to pull over a Dodge Avenger near the intersection of Antrim Road and Rockspur Street in Winnipeg’s east end at about 12:30 Tuesday morning.

But the vehicle tried to take “evasive action” and collided with three police cruisers. Police say three officers from the Tactical Support Team suffered upper body injuries and went to hospital in stable condition. Two have been released but one remains in hospital with a “serious upper body injury.” Police say three of their vehicles suffered “extensive damage.”

Two men and a woman were arrested and officers say a loaded handgun was found in the vehicle. Police won’t say what led them to stop the vehicle, other than it was the “result of an ongoing investigation by members of the Organized Crime Unit” and other police units.

Police also noted that they “continue to deal with the ongoing outlaw motorcycle gang conflict.”

Several fires and shootings in Winnipeg recently have been linked to a power struggle between the Rock Machine outlaw motorcycle gang, and the Redlined Support Crew – a puppet club of the Hells Angels.

Police say Joseph Jordan Carl Choken, 19, and Guy Wesley Vernon Stevenson, 21 – both of no fixed address – have been charged with numerous firearm related offenses. Officers did not name the 23 year old Lorette woman who was also arrested.
