A former biker who killed a man in a Winnipeg bar and walked free in a controversial plea deal is among the suspects arrested Friday in a major anti-drug sweep across Manitoba.

Winnipeg police and RCMP raided an undisclosed number of locations Friday morning, arresting seven people and issuing warrants for six more. Police also released photos of drugs seized in the raids, which included cocaine, marijuana and ecstacy and had a total value of $1 million.
Among those arrested and charged is 36 year old Billy Bowden, a notorious former biker gang member who was convicted of manslaughter in the 2007 stabbing death of a man in a Winnipeg nightclub. Bowden was sentenced to time served and walked free after the plea deal that outraged the family of the victim, Jeff Engen.
Bowden is charged with three counts of trafficking cocaine and three counts of possessing proceeds of crime.
The raids were directed by a joint RCMP/Winnipeg Police unit called the Manitoba Integrated Organized Crime Task Force. In a news release Friday, police say 80 other officers were also involved in the project. Police say Project Deplete began in August 2011 and focused on high level independent drug traffickers operating in the City of Winnipeg and rural Manitoba. DISCLAIMER:Text may be subject to copyright. This blog does not claim copyright to any such text. Police say they seized 6912 grams of cocaine, 465 grams of crack cocaine, 272 grams of methamphetamine, 9,811 tablets of ecstasy, 1063 grams of MDMA, 501 tablets of oxycodone and 891 grams of marihuana.
Police were seen raiding an address on Vadeboncoeur Drive in St. Vital early Friday morning, but police would not confirm if this was one of the locations involved in Operation Deplete.
