BIKER NEWS: Remembering a fellow firefighter
BN- Dozens of motorcyclists led a funeral procession on Tuesday to Lexington Cemetery for retired Lexington Fire Department Capt. Max Hellmueller, 68, who died last week in a motorcycle crash in Barren County.
Hellmueller, a native of Lexington, served 29 years with the fire department and was retired from the naval reserve.
While serving in the Navy on the USS Hornet, he helped recover the astronauts of Apollo 11 and 12 after they returned from their missions.
Hellmueller was a member of the Brother’s Keepers Motorcycle Club, which consists of active and retired firefighters, and rode with the Kentucky Patriot Guard Riders. Both groups took part in his services.
