BIKER NEWS: SA court jails Hells Angels bikie Daniel Mark Jalleh over drugs and guns discovered after illegal U-turn
BN- A HELLS Angels bikie has been jailed over drugs and guns discovered after he pulled an illegal U-turn in front of police — and crashed into a car.
The District Court has sentenced Daniel Mark Jalleh to five years and three months’ jail for a raft of offences involving 80 per cent pure methylamphetamine and a sawn-off shotgun.
In sentencing remarks published online, Judge Paul Rice said Jalleh’s offending came to light in March 2013, when he rode his motorcycle on Marion Rd, Mitchell Park.
“You were dressed in full members’ colours of the Hells Angels ... you saw the police and did an illegal U-turn at a red light intersection,” he said.
“You accelerated away at speed but a short time later collided with a car on Oaklands Road whereby you sustained an injury, as I understand it, to your lower left leg and ankle.”
Judge Rice said police found tubs of powder, containing 1.06g of pure methylamphetamine, at the crash scene and charged Jalleh with drug offences.
Jalleh spent the next 12 days in hospital recovering from his injuries but, upon his release, was found to be in possession of a further 21.45g of pure methylamphetamine in 25g of powder.
Police also seized $710 in cash, digital scales, a sawn-off shotgun and 12 rounds of ammunition.
“The purity (of the drug) therefore was in the order of 80%,” Judge Rice said.
“It obviously depends upon whether it is cut or sold in smaller quantities or sold as is, but its value in that situation was seen to be, as it were, between about $13,000 and $14,000.”
Jalleh, 26, subsequently pleaded guilty to offences of trafficking in methylamphetamine, as well as firearms charges and breaches of previous good behaviour bonds.
Judge Rice noted doctors had expressed optimism for Jalleh’s rehabilitation, pointing to the recent birth of his son as motivation, but said he remained concerned.
“You have maintained, at the very least, contact with the Hells Angels,” he said.
“Having said that, I hope the birth of your son does assist in your rehabilitation and convinces you to keep away from your former associates.
“Otherwise, I suspect, it will all finish badly.”
He ordered Jalleh be eligible to apply for release on parole in two years.
