Biker with ‘Hatred’ tattooed on forehead sought in Tukwila shooting

Tukwila police said they are looking for Kevin Vaughn as a person of interest in connection with the shooting. Vaughn is described in court documents as a “prolific South King County auto thief,” recognizable by the word “Hatred” tattooed in flowing script across his forehead.
Police said he often wears a Mariners cap pulled down to hide the tattoo.
Tukwila Police Cmdr. Eric Drever said officers and detectives from a regional auto-theft task force, including agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), had gathered early Thursday to arrest Vaughn on felony burglary and auto-theft charges, as well as serve a search warrant on a home in the 14900 block of 51st Avenue South in Tukwila.
As they gathered to serve the warrant about 5:30 a.m., Drever said, two motorcycles approached the area on southbound Interstate 5, slowed down on an offramp overlooking the area, and opened fire with handguns.ATF Special Agent Brian Bennett said 13 shots were fired. The officers scattered and took cover, however, and no one was injured, according to police.
Bennett said no bullet-strikes were found, although 10 shell casings were recovered from the roadway. The motorcyclists got away.
The shooting occurred near the interchange of southbound Interstate 5 and Highway 518, disrupting traffic.
According to Drever, Vaughn is affiliated with the Resurrection Motorcycle Club, an so-called “outlaw” gang that has been active in Tukwila for several years.
According to court documents in an unrelated federal prosecution of another Resurrection member, the club has been affiliated with the Bandidos Outlaw Motorcycle Club, the state’s largest biker gang.
More recently, however, Bennett said intelligence has tied Resurrection to the Hells Angels.
Vaughn, 26, has a long history of felony convictions, including burglary, car theft, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property. He is wanted on burglary and auto-theft charges stemming from the Aug. 21 theft of a motorcycle from a locked parking garage near Northgate.
He was identified by task-force members who viewed surveillance video of the theft, according to the complaint.
“He is a known gang member associated with the Resurrection motorcycle gang,” police wrote in a news release. “He is also a subject of interest in this shooting incident.”
Bennett said police found numerous firearms in the home search.
In 2013, federal prosecutors obtained a conviction against Karl Stuart, a member of the Resurrection Motorcycle Club, for extortion after he and another biker, a Bandido, took over a motorycle-repair business in Olympia through threats and extortion. Stuart received a 30-month prison sentence.
