BIKER NEWS: Bikers meet in Kilmarnock to give terminally ill Davie Watt a day to remember on journey across Ayrshire

BN- The Rock Hard Cafe in Kilmarnock was the destination for a heartwarming journey for a terminally ill man.

And thanks to a group of Ayrshire petrol heads and bikers the dream journey was made possible.

Davie Watt is undergoing treatment for terminal cancer.

Drew Fairley, who runs the Ayrshire Biker Booty Facebook group, was contacted by Davie’s friend Don Currie and said he was more than happy to help.

Drew told us: “Don asked for a trike to take his pal a run on, helping him tick off his bucket list.

“I thought this would be a great opportunity to get a few bikes and trikes together and give him a run to remember.

“We had a great response from our members and decided that Billy McCrorie and Christine Innes’ Predator trike was best suited for Davie’s needs. It has a bench type seat and is easier to get on and off.

“It’s a hard time for Davie, and we’re all glad he got the chance to spend time with his pals doing what he loves.”

After two non-starts due to Davie’s ill health, the Angels eventually got going on Sunday, September 27.

They met at the Bellfield interchange, with a fabulous turnout of around 30 bikes and trikes there to give Davie a guard of honour up the A77.

Drew added: “We all headed down and roared into Davie’s street in Patna to pick him up, greeted by many of his neighbours family and friends.

“With thanks to Willie and Laura Sloan for the loan of helmet and gear for Davie, we headed to Dalmellington Square for a wee photo shoot with yet more of his friends and family, then after headed up to Kilmarnock to The Rock Hard Cafe.

“They were great on the day and thanks must go to owner Henry McGregor and all his staff for supplying tea, coffee, doughnuts and also a meal for Davie.

“We also gifted Davie an Ayrshire Biker Booty t-shirt as a souvenier of his day with thanks to the Kilmarnock Tigers MCC for purchasing it.”

The group, minus a few who had other commitments, then escorted Davie safely home.

Drew added: “He had a great day and never stopped smiling and couldn’t believe that all these bikers were out just for him.

"I’d like to thank everyone for supporting me and ABB with this, to those who marshalled the run, and of course all who participated.”
