BIKER NEWS: Motorcycle-riding robot is meanest-looking biker ever VIA: nypost
BIKER NEWS -- This biker is a real man of steel.
Yamaha-made Motobot is a humanoid biker designed to ride “from a human rider’s standpoint — with no modifications made to the motorcycle itself,”wired.co.uk reports.
The aerodynamic, helmet-clad robot — unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show — plans to take on human MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi.
Motobot strikes a humanlike pose on an unmodified Yamaha YZF-R1M, which it operates using six actuators — for steering, throttle, front brake, rear brake, clutch and gearshift pedal.
The robot reacts to the bike’s speed, engine RPM and attitude as it steers.
For now, the robot still needs a pair of training wheels to prevent the bike from tipping over, International Business Times reports.
An advanced version, the company hopes, will be able to “make its own decisions regarding the best lines to take around a racetrack and the limits of the motorcycle’s performance, so that it can improve its lap times with successive laps of the track.”
