BIKER NEWS: Queensland anti-bikie laws target six groups with no local members, government review finds

BIKER NEWS -- Six of the "criminal organisations" in Queensland targeted by controversial anti-bikie laws do not have any members in the state.

The revelation comes amid a State Government review of the laws, which have been criticised by lawyers and civil liberties groups and become the subject of fierce political debate.

During the former LNP government of Campbell Newman, Queensland police drew up a list of 26 "declared organisations", the members of which risk jail if they meet in public in groups of more than two.

A Queensland Police Service intelligence document tendered to the taskforce shows there were 882 confirmed and unconfirmed members of "criminal motorcycle gangs" in the state as at June this year, of whom two-thirds had been charged with an offence of some kind, including "traffic and simple offences".
