n Mahanoy City: The Blessed Teresa Golden Age group has seats available for its Oct. 3 trip to Premium Outlets. The cost is $31. n Pottsville: Diakon Living and Learning will sponsor “Portraiture 101” at 6 p.m. beginning Sept. 10 at the Pottsville Center, 201 N. Centre St. The cost is $45 for three sessions. The registration deadline is Monday. For more information, call 570-624-3018.

n Pottsville: Eileen Kuperavage, executive director of the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation, gave an update on SACF during a recent meeting of the Pottsville Rotary Club. She said the original foundation dates back to 1914 and was previously known as the Ashland Community Foundation, which was expanded to its current coverage in 1967. SADCF now has 154 endowment funds with total assets of $17.7 million, according to a report in the Rotary bulletin. Many of the funds are designated funds for particular grants, such as scholarships. Nine funds are unrestricted grant funds. According to Kuperavage, SACF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation with a mission “to serve donors by developing, managing and investing their contributions and to serve the community by distributing earnings annually to meet the present and future needs of our community,” according to the bulletin. The foundation encourages philanthropy at all levels, provides comprehensive donor services and responds to changing community needs and opportunities in areas such as arts and culture, education, environment, health and human services and volunteer programs, Kuperavage said. It operates with a staff of three, with administrative expenses averaging 1.6 percent of fund income. More information is available at the foundation’s website at www.sacfoundation.com.

n Ringtown: The Friends of the Ringtown Library support group is sponsoring a New York City bus trip on Nov. 14. The bus will leave Ringtown at 7 a.m. and depart from the city at 7 p.m. for the return trip. The cost is $42 per person for the day-on-your-own in New York with drop-off in midtown Manhattan. Payment in full is required to reserve a seat. For more information, call the library at 570-889-5503.

n Schuylkill Haven: The Schuylkill County Motorcycle Club will stage a poker run and old-time field meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the club site, 958 Schuylkill Mountain Road. The cost is $8 for the poker run, $10 for the field meet and $15 for both. For more information, all 570-754-7208.

n Schuylkill Haven: A ride for Julie called “Julie’s Journey,” sponsored by the Friends of Julie, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Second Mountain Rod and Gun Club. The cost is $20. The event will include a poker run and beef-n-brew. The poker run will begin at 11 a.m. For more information, call 610-781-8245.

n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Area Free Public Library, 15 W. Washington St., is hosting “Eat Right When Money Is Tight” nutrition workshops by Penn State Nutrition adviser Cyndi Clayton from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesdays in September. The free workshop series will discuss ways to save at the store while improving your family’s budget and health, according to a press release.
