n Pottsville: Eileen Kuperavage, executive director of the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation, gave an update on SACF during a recent meeting of the Pottsville Rotary Club. She said the original foundation dates back to 1914 and was previously known as the Ashland Community Foundation, which was expanded to its current coverage in 1967. SADCF now has 154 endowment funds with total assets of $17.7 million, according to a report in the Rotary bulletin. Many of the funds are designated funds for particular grants, such as scholarships. Nine funds are unrestricted grant funds. According to Kuperavage, SACF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation with a mission “to serve donors by developing, managing and investing their contributions and to serve the community by distributing earnings annually to meet the present and future needs of our community,” according to the bulletin. The foundation encourages philanthropy at all levels, provides comprehensive donor services and responds to changing community needs and opportunities in areas such as arts and culture, education, environment, health and human services and volunteer programs, Kuperavage said. It operates with a staff of three, with administrative expenses averaging 1.6 percent of fund income. More information is available at the foundation’s website at www.sacfoundation.com.
n Ringtown: The Friends of the Ringtown Library support group is sponsoring a New York City bus trip on Nov. 14. The bus will leave Ringtown at 7 a.m. and depart from the city at 7 p.m. for the return trip. The cost is $42 per person for the day-on-your-own in New York with drop-off in midtown Manhattan.
