BIKE WEEK: Hells Angels Motorcycle Club meets in Clarksville

Halifax County and South Boston law enforcement officers said no problems were reported here over the weekend following the much-anticipated arrival of members of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club in the Clarksville area for their East Coast convention.

Sheriff Fred S. Clark said the county received no reports of any problems associated with the group’s visit and were never called in to quell any disturbances.


Most attendees found accommodations in and around Clarksville with some staying in hotels and motels here in Halifax County.


Some 75-100 club members found lodging in the South Boston area, according to South Boston Police Sergeant Tim Van Aernem.


The majority of the conference meetings were held at the Lake Motel in Clarksville, according to Mecklenburg Sheriff Bobby Hawkins.


As part of the events, the organization hosted a softball tournament at Robbins Park in Clarksville Saturday to raise funds for a charity, Hawkins added.




Although the Wednesday through Sunday convention took place primarily in Mecklenburg County, county hotels, restaurants and bars did reap some economic rewards as the motorcycle riding crowd overflowed here.
