Local Motorcycle Club Taking Matters Into Their Own Hands

They're called the Sentinel Knights Riders Club and they're doing what they can to stop child abuse and to protect the community.

President John Remy explained, "Everyone thinks bikers are big mean, bad guys and bad women."

But, those are they types of people they're looking to change.

From bullies to child molesters, these guys are there to stop them.

"Somebody's gotta take charge and help these kids, you know. We can't leave em alone," Remy added.

Remy told News Ten they use the large group of bikes for intimidation when they first show up to resolve a conflict. But then....

"We don't go there with hate or threats. I go there with love and kindness and try and get on their side so we can try and make a difference and make things better," Remy explained.

VP, Michael Harrell added, "We like to mentor the kids and make sure that they've got support on either end."

And, both said there is a system of checks and balances to their work.

"I'll talk to family members of them. I'll have probably ten people that they know that they're associated with and I'll talk to them. I'll talk to their neighbors. I'll talk to everyone I can before we do anything. And, we always make sure that we're doing what we're supposed to be doing," Remy said.

While Lansing Police strongly support communities looking out for each other, they want to remind everyone to call the police when it's a police matter.

Officer Robert Merritt explained, "If you're involved in something and you're not quite sure if it's a law matter, still call the police. We're gonna come out and we're gonna respond and educate you."

And, if no laws were broken....

"We're going to refer you on to somebody that can help you, counseling, what have you, or calling the school district," Officer Merritt added.

The Sentinel Knights Riders told News Ten they've had a good relationship with law enforcement and plan to continue that moving forward.
