Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club In South Australian To Host 2016 AJMX

Motorcycling Australia have announced that KTM Australia have signed on as the naming rights partner for the 2016 Australian Junior Motocross Championship (AJMX) to be held in Renmark, South Australia.

The event, which will be hosted by the Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club, will be KTM Australia’s fourth as major sponsor.

KTM Australia Marketing and Communications Manager Greg Chambers said the company was extremely pleased to lend its support to the premier junior motocross event again.

“KTM Australia is proud to once again be the naming rights sponsor for the 2016 Australian Junior Motocross Championship,” Chambers said.

“The championships in the Riverland will be our fourth year as naming rights sponsor and it is one of the most important events of the year for us. Not only does this event provide a platform for the sport's elite to compete for the all-important championships, it also gives the junior motocross community from around Australia an opportunity to get together in one place for a week of fun competition and socialising.”

Australia’s biggest motorcycling event in terms of participation numbers, the 2016 AJMX will be hosted by the Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club (RJMC) from October 4-9, 2016.

RJMC President Doug Spanos said the club had already undertaken upgrades to the track, irrigation and canteen facilities, and were in the process of further improving its facilities in preparation for its first national championship event.

The club has also committed to providing coaching sessions the day prior to club race days this year to develop the club’s junior riders and promote the sport.

“The Riverland Junior Motocross Club has been running for around 40 years, and it has steadily grown,” Spanos said.

“It certainly is the biggest event that we will host. We’ve been hosting SA state titles for a few years now, and we thought with the club growing and a great committee and great sponsors behind us that the time was right for us to put ourselves out there to host a national event. Hosting this event will be challenging, but rewarding for the Riverland Junior Motorcycle Club.

“In preparation for October next year, we’re going to extend the track a little and we’ve started looking at all the best options and designs for a track to suit a junior national event.”

Motorcycling South Australia’s (MSA) General Manager Chris McArdle said the state controlling body would continue to work closely with the RJMC to ensure a top-class event takes place.

“The club has been upgrading their facilities progressively and working towards a plan to bid for an event such as this, so it’s really exciting for them and the venue and all their workers and volunteers in the club to be able to have this opportunity,” McArdle said.

“We’re really confident they’ll do a great job and that we will have a great week’s racing come October next year.”

McArdle added that the MSA was looking forward to reaping the benefits of an event such as the AJMX being held in the state.

“For our local riders, it gives them a chance to have a championship event close to home and on tracks that they are familiar with, so what a great opportunity for them to show their wares against national competition,” McArdle said.

“It also puts motorcycling right in the spotlight; people who might not otherwise consider motorcycling to be for them, might now decide to give it a go, which can only be beneficial for the sport generally in SA.”

Destination Riverland General Manager Tony Sharley added that hosting an event of this magnitude would provide a huge boost to the region.

“From a tourism perspective, events are something we celebrate in this region and we make sure they are very well supported. We recognise that events like this are a fantastic opportunity to showcase our part of the Murray River and its fabulous food and wine, and of course injecting dollars into our economy,” Sharley said.

“It (the 2016 AJMX) is going to generate a lot of interest with locals. There is a huge motorsport following in our region, and we have a number of motorsport events ranging from go karts to speedway to enduro, so our region really does go out of its way to support these sort of events."
