BIKER NEWS: Biker group smashes Illuminations target

BN- More than 400 people riding motorbikes of all shapes and sizes helped a 6,500-member group break its annual ride the lights record.

The North West UK Motorcycles and Bikers’ third annual event, held on Saturday night, saw a huge convoy travel down the Promenade from North West Honda Blackpool in Lytham St Annes Way to New Norbreck Chippy in Norbreck Road, Thornton, which offered the bikers discounted food and free parking.

Motorbike salesman Simon Carter, 33, from Lytham, said the group successfully smashed last year’s previous record of 342 riders.

People riding bikes with engines ranging from 49cc scooters to 2,300cc cruisers were invited to take part, and travelled from across the country to take part.

Locals and tourists alike took to The Gazette’s Facebook page to tell of their delight at seeing the group, which also organises ride outs for local charities and schools.

Lisa Stratton wrote: “We sat in our hotel at the window and watched all the bikes going through the lights.

“They were waving at the kids. Looked like fun. There were hundreds of them.”
