BIKER NEWS: Bikers in blue raising awareness
BN- It's not often you see a blue elephant strapped to the back of a Harley.
The unusual sight was accompanied by blue beards, blue outfits and almost 350 motorcyles for Bikers in Blue.
The event, held September 13, saw over 400 people ride from PlaceMakers Pakuranga to PlaceMakers Albany, raising awareness for prostate cancer.
Event organiser Morgan Sobanja says it was an enjoyable day and they had great feedback from participants.
"From an organiser's point of view it was very satisfying," he says. "All of the biking community come together and donate to a cause, it's very rewarding."
The event is part of the Prostate Cancer Foundation's Blue September campaign and raised $10,000.
The fifth annual ride had around 100 more riders than last year and raised $3500 more.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in New Zealand.
Every year, around 3000 men are diagnosed with the disease and more than 600 die from it.
You can buy a blue ribbon, paint your face blue, donate money to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or even spread the word to help out and raise awareness.
