MotoGP News: Marquez: My favourite track of the year

“This is my favourite track of the year and we've had good results in the past, despite last year's unfortunate rain-affected race” - Marc Marquez.

After a fourth victory of the season in changeable weather at Misano, Marc Marquez is hoping for a 'normal' MotoGP weekend at Aragon.

Perhaps that's not surprising given that Marquez and team-mate Dani Pedrosa were the main casualties of rain last year at Aragon.

The Repsol Honda pair had been battling for victory with Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo, but stayed out too long on slick tyres after the wet weather arrived, causing them both to fall.

It wasn't the only bad Aragon memory for Marquez and Pedrosa: Marquez was taken out at the first turn of the 125cc race in 2010, while Pedrosa fell following contact with Marquez - which severed a traction control sensor - in the 2013 event.

Nevertheless, Aragon remains Marquez's favourite track and - as one of the four Spanish rounds - both Repsol riders are sure to have plenty of home support.

"After a strange race in Misano, I'm really looking forward to Aragon this weekend! This is my favourite track of the year and we've had good results in the past, despite last year's unfortunate rain-affected race,” said Marquez, an Aragon winner in 2011 (Moto2) and 2013 (MotoGP).

“The first and final sections of the track are quite technical and you must work hard on the setup to have good cornering. Let's hope this weekend we can have a 'normal' race weekend with good weather so we can work hard from the Friday and be ready for the fight on Sunday."

Despite the Misano win, Marquez's four DNFs mean he is 63 points behind title leader Valentino Rossi with 125 points still available.

Meanwhile Pedrosa, who claimed victory at Aragon in 2012, has five more chances to continue his record of winning a race during each of his MotoGP seasons. He arrives from a ninth place at Misano, having missed the optimum time to pit for his dry bike.

"It was a disappointing race in Misano and I've already put it behind me,” he said. “The last two years have been tricky for me in Aragon so I look forward to an incident free race this year.

“I enjoy going to Aragon and having the opportunity to race in front of our home fans, of course this gives you more motivation and we will all try put on a good show for them. Let's see how the weather is and I hope to be in the battle for the victory."
