Mountain biker in rocks plunge rescue

A mountain biker took a spectacular 35ft fall from the top of Chew Rocks near Chew reservoir at Dovestones
yesterday. A 10-strong squad from Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was called to help rescue him.

The cyclist had fallen to the bottom of the rocks and suffered multiple injuries. He was treated by air and ground ambulance crew and mountain rescue before being flown to Wythenshawe Hospital. His condition has not been revealed.

Mountain rescue leader, Mick Nield said: “It was a very well co-ordinated operation between all the services.”

Last night TV viewers got a coincidental view of OMRT at work, on BBC’s “North West Tonight”. They saw Mick and other expert dog handlers demonstrate rescue skills on Saddleworth Moor.

“The programme was filmed a couple of weeks ago and it was ironic it was shown on the back of a real-life rescue.
