BIKER NEWS: Notorious Black Uhlans bikie put on notice over Tasmania rally
BN- A HORDE of feared outlaw motorcycle gang members about to descend on the North-West Coast have been put on police notice.
The Black Uhlans have a small presence in Tasmania but are regarded as an extremely violent gang interstate with involvement in murders, major drug manufacture, beatings and punitive rapes.
More than 100 Black Uhlans will hit Devonport and Smithton, where local chapters have been established, tomorrow as part of their annual national run.
Tasmania Police say they will monitor the bikies over the three-day period.
“Their mainland membership have a bit of a reputation as being a violent gang, so that’s obviously our key interest in them here,” Western District Acting Commander Tim Dooley said.
“I can reassure the public we are aware of it, we’ve planned for it, we’ve got a co-ordinated response to deal with it and they can be comfortable that things will be fine.”
Specialist police are being flown in from interstate to assist in the operation.
In 2014 a Victorian tribunal heard Black Uhlans members had been found with a flame thrower, crossbows, silencers, pen guns and explosives.
Victoria Police said an alleged rape was of the relative of one of their own members, as punishment.
Tasmania Police has been aware of the Black Uhlans’ plans for several months.
“The OMCG [Outlaw Motorcycle Gang] members are on notice in our jurisdiction,” Commander Dooley said.
