BIKER NEWS: Qld cops dismantle violent bikie gang

BN- A man who allegedly tried to burn a house down is one of eight people Queensland police have arrested in a continued crackdown on outlaw bikie gangs.

Detectives say the eight men, aged 21 to 40, were arrested and charged with 58 offences, including grievous bodily harm, drug trafficking and arson of a home and car.

The group is also accused of threatening people with firearms and recruiting people to join a criminal organisation.

The arrests signalled an end to Operation North Gulf 2 on Thursday, which also saw eight people arrested in May for a string of offences including torture and extortion.

Police said the gang included ex-members of the Comancheros bikie gang, who claimed to be starting up a new Rebels chapter in Brisbane's west.

Detective Acting Superintendent Brendan Smith said the group, which used violence to extend its power, was now completely dismantled, although further arrests were expected.

He said police will be alleging they attacked people with hammers and caused a potentially deadly fire in a car and house.

"Intimidation is their business model and the community has had enough," he said.
